Geoff Li Headshot 1.jpg

Geoff Li is a composer and sound designer for media and the concert hall based in Edmonton, Canada. He is part of the music production team Madcap Labs, with whom he scores the Pokémon TV series. Born in Daqing, China in 1994, Geoff began his musical journey through the guitar at the age of 10, and switched his focus to composition during university. Unapologetic in his love of various styles and aesthetics, his music blends together elements of Western classical, progressive metal, jazz, electronic, early 2000s video game music, and his Korean-Chinese heritage.

Geoff has been commissioned by the Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton, Obsessions String Quartet, and the C’mon Festival (Chamber Music Old & New); and his music has been played by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, and Yardbird Suite Jazz Orchestra. He is currently working with indie game developer Aerobox Games on their upcoming title Rogue Racer. From 2021-2023, he served on council and, later, as head of the Professional Development Committee for the Canadian League of Composers.

A graduate of MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Music program in 2016, he has since been studying under private instruction. His teachers include Allan Gilliland, Kent Sangster, David Braid, Emilie LeBel, and Vincent Ho.

Outside of creating, Geoff is an avid Magic: The Gathering player. A creature of nostalgia, he has replayed his favorite games Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Metroid Fusion, and Pokémon Emerald way too many times.
